85% of chocolatey goodness

Is that not one of the yummiest things you’ve ever seen?

I have never (previously) been a fan of dark chocolate. I was always a milk chocolate kind of person. But somehow now, since I don’t eat candy or really any sugar other than fruit, my taste buds have evolved.

Recently, there have been several studies extolling the virtues of dark chocolate, including a recent NY Times article about how chocolate benefits athletes. So, the last time I was in Windhoek, I was at the SPAR near Maerua mall, the most posh grocery store in the country, I think and they had quite a selection of Lindt chocolate. I bought a small bar of 85% dark chocolate since it had the highest cocoa content and the lowest sugar. And I liked it. A lot!

The most interesting thing was that a couple of squares (about 10-20 grams) was completely satisfying. Yum, yum!

Peter, a Nigerian volunteer teacher at Kizito High School who also lives here at Cheshire Home, went to Windhoek a couple of weeks ago and sweet, sweet guy that he is, he took my $100, trekked out to SPAR and bought me 4 large bars! They aren’t cheap, but each bar lasts me about a week, so this lovely collection is a month of sweet joy.
